The Myspace Beta Profile Editor

Stephanie Bohrman
Myspace now has its own beta profile editor. You can reach it by going to your Home page and (in the new myspace format) below your profile picture and your Control Panel is a link that says Profile Editor. Click on the Profile Editor to begin editing your profile. The Profile Editor has a few Themed Skins, Contact Tables, and Backgrounds, but the best part of this editor is the custom editing that you can do with it.

However, once you save a design using the beta editor, do not expect to go back to the way your page was before you edited it. The only way to change the page is to use the beta editor again if you want to try to get it close to the way it used to be. The beta editor is so simple to use, that you probably will not mind that you cannot change the page back to the way it was. It is more fun just to try new design ideas. You get to see the results of each change to your profile as you make it and nothing is permanent until you click "save".

Click on the Customize tab to go to the special editor. You can edit the Background, Modules, Images, Text, and Links. In the Background and Module sections, you can use pictures from the saved pics on a myspace profile as background pictures or you can change the background color of the page or modules. You can change the colors or add a picture to all of the modules at one time. You can change the colors and/or pictures of some of the modules on the myspace page individually. You can adjust the thickness, style and color of borders of the modules and the page. You can totally hide a module by changing the transparency of the module from 100% to 0% or you can make it translucent by setting the transparency somewhere between the two. You can change the Images and Links so that they do special effects when a visitor does a mouse-over.

The first time I tried to use a picture; the editor did not work correctly. My picture showed up as a thumbnail rather than a full size picture. However, when I went back later to use the editor it worked correctly. The text editor can change the color of some text on the page but not all, yet. You can probably edit other text you wish to change within your profile using regular HTML tags. Sometimes when you save the page, the editor does not make all of the changes correctly. You can resolve this easily by going back to the editor, making some adjustments, and saving the page again. Overall, I found the Profile Editor quite helpful. On the Home page of the editor is also a link to Profile Support where you can learn more about CSS and HTML.

I don t know where to begin!  View profile

  • Edit the Background, Modules, Images, Text, and Links.
  • Change the colors or add a picture to all of the modules at one time.
  • Change the Images and Links to do special effects on mouse-over.
Hide a module completely by changing its transparency to 0%.
