The Naked Violin is Offered for Free
Many Musical Artists Are Offering Their Music at a Pay What You Can Price
This is not the first time that music has been offered this way. Classical music artist Barbara Hendricks allowed her fans to download her fans to download her songs for whatever they wanted to pay. Radiohead released their seventh album "In rainbows" on their site as a digital download, and the customers got to choose their own price. It has also been said Oasis and Jamiroquai have been thinking about offering free digital downloads for their fans.
It's interesting that these other artists that have done this have asked you to "pay what you can" , while Tasmin Little is offering her recording with any expectations of payment. It was said that even though Radiohead asked their fans to pay what they can about 60% of the people downloaded the album completely free. Tasmin Little on her website asks you to download her music and listen to it, and then to email her about what you do or don't like about each piece. She also says that if you like it, buy a CD or go to a concert, she says that if you still won't do that write her and tell her why. I think this is a great way to get interactive with her fans.
So why are all these musical artists giving away their music? Because it helps them get their music out there. By giving away your music, you reach out to a lot of people who might not have bought your songs. You let people have the chance to get to know your music, beyond the one or two songs played on the radio. This can be a big benefit to the artist. When people get a chance to hear your music they will become bigger fans. Tasmin Little says she want to give people who wouldn't buy classical music CD, a chance to hear her.
I think this is a great idea. I know I would never go out and buy a classical music CD, I probably would have never even heard of Tasmin Little. I think this gives everyone a chance to judge the music, without a monetary risk. By offering their albums for free, they are getting their music out to a lot more people. The little bit of money that they are not making on these albums is nothing compared to the value of the life long fans they will gain
I did go to Tasmin Little's' site, and downloaded her songs. I would have never done this if I had to pay. I enjoyed her music, and I would have never of known this. The violin sounds wonderful, and I really like how she introduces each piece, you learn so much. I recommend that you go to her site yourself and listen to her music, you never know what you might like until you hear it.
