Having a 'nanny cam' installed is a safety-net for parents. It would be fair compare them as equal to a home security system. For those of you with a home security camera system, is it not something you make sure is on when you are not at home? Well, it is the same thing with a nanny cam. The parent or adult home owner is not home, and they have chosen a camera security system to monitor their priceless possessions--their children.
If a nanny feels like it violates his/her rights, just ask them if they think the 'bank teller' at their local bank should also feel violated from having security monitors watching them all day? Many businesses use security cameras in the work area. Since a nanny is technically at work in someone else's home, and therefore the home becomes their place of employment, then the employer has a right to monitor their irreplaceable and valuable possessions-their children.
On the flip side, what if you are a nanny who has been responsible for a child who has truly had an accident and gotten hurt under your watch? That nanny cam could make the difference between you serving jail time or sustaining your reputation. It protects both the parents and the nanny. If you are a legit, competent, and ethical nanny, you would probably demand they install a nanny cam just to cover your behind.
When it comes to our children, we cannot implement enough, nowadays, to ensure their safety and protect them from harm. It is the unfortunate reality of the times we live in, however, there are safety-nets parents can put to good and practical use that truly can make a difference.
