The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink in Washington, DC

Outdoor Skating, Another Reason Why Washington, DC is a Great Place to Live

M.G. Hardiman
Washington, DC has its many charms, but none so much as its dedication and commitment to green space and parks, height restrictions for office buildings and residences across the District, and outdoor ice skating in the winter months.

Indeed, there's nothing quite like outdoor ice skating. It just feels better than skating indoors. Skating outdoors is especially magical in Washington, DC where you're surrounded by a beautiful city, historical landmarks and cultural attractions as you take a spin around the ice rink. The National Mall, in particular, offers stunning views to new and seasoned ice skaters alike.

One of the best places to ice skate outdoors on the National Mall? The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink. This lovely destination is open mid-November through mid-March, weather permitting. The Sculpture Garden Ice Rink is notable for bringing together boys and girls, men and women, young and old who share a common love of ice skating. The Sculpture Garden Ice Rink also provides art and culture as a wonderful backdrop, as a result the rink attracts thousands of visitors to skate in the nation's capital each year.

What's new this year? The Sculpture Garden Ice Rink will now offer group and private lessons.

Imagine, gliding along the ice in a park-like setting, inspired by the adjacent national museums and monuments, all the while enjoying the views of sculptures by legendary artists like Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Roxy Paine, among others.

Got your skates on? Check out the Sculpture Garden Ice Rink this year. You won't be disappointed.
