The National Peanut Festival in Dothan Alabama 2009
Neighborhood: Dothan
Dothan, AL 36301

Rides and lights seem embedded into the night sky. The sounds of joyful shrieks slice through the air as the ferris wheel comes to a stop. You feel like you can see the whole world. The night is no longer dark. It is brilliant and exciting, and you are at the very top of it all. The ferris wheel comes down, and you are in the thick of a jungle of carnival exhibits, games, and more. Time itself whirls around you as though this energy will last forever though it is for just a moment.

The National Peanut Festival embodies all that makes festivals fun and exciting. There is something for all ages. There is a cake decorating contest and a recipe contest. Items for these must be dropped off by October 29, 2009. The festival officially opens the gates on October 30th and runs through November 8th. Livestock shows include Alabama bred lambs, Jr heifer and steer, sheep, dairy goats, and beef cattle. There will also be a calf scramble and greased pig. There will be a Sea Lion Splash and a Circle C Petting Zoo. James Thomas will do a Border Collie Demonstration on Monday, November 2. An antique tractor show will run from Thursday to Saturday.

The concerts alone will be incredible, including such acts as Gloriana, Eric Church, Chuck Wicks, and Lady Antebellum. Jesse James will also be there. Reserved seating for concerts is only $10. Gloriana sings Wild at Heart and How Far Do You Wanna Go. Eric Church sings "Love Your Love the Most". Chuck Wicks sings "Stealing Cinderella" and "Man of the House". Lady Antebellum sings "Need You Now".

Admission is $7.00 for anyone 6 and over. Armbands for rides are regularly $20. For Super Sunday, armbands will be $18. For Ten Buck Tuesday, armbands are $10. Wednesday is ladies night. Armbands are just $10 for ladies on Wednesday. Thursday is Senior Citizens day. Admission for seniors is free from noon to 4 pm. Admission is $5.00 after 4 pm for seniors on Thursday. Friday is Midnight Madness. Armbands go on sale at 9pm on Friday. On Saturday, all military personnel with their id's and their families will only pay $5.00 for admission.
