The Natural Elements of Good Health

GK
Isn't life glorious? Consider for a moment the beauty and perfection of nature. Think about the constant tendency of life toward what is best for it, and both the plant and animal kingdoms. All around us are examples of the indescribable wisdom and power of creation, and at the very apex of creation stands a masterpiece, the human body.

A marvel of tireless performance, the human body was constructed for health and happiness. The ultimate achievement of life on Earth, the most praiseworthy accomplishment possible, is to live a life of joy and robust vitality a life filled with enthusiasm, well-being, boundless energy, and a zest for life that is constant and unshakable. It is living totally in tune with life's grand symphony. What a delight.

Is it possible for children to go through their childhood without being tormented by every problem imaginable, from ear infections to colds, from skin rashes to stomach distress? Is it possible for them to be free of tantrums? Is it possible for adolescents to enter adulthood without suffering from headaches, stomach aches, bad skin and excess weight? Is it possible for them to be well-balanced and spared the all too common in emotional roller coaster? Is it possible to reach maturity and enjoy seeing your senior ship free from the hundreds of aches and pains that appear to be inevitable and unavoidable? Is it possible to live a pain-free stress-free and disease-free existence filled with loving relationships? It is possible without a question and we can all do it.

The human species has been on this planet for many millions of years. Recorded history only extends 6000 years and the recorded history of health care is only 3000 years old. If anyone tells you that all we've ever known about our health is encompassed in this brief 3000 year history that modern medicine claims as its own, believe it if you wish, but it is certainly not true. We once knew much more about survival than we know now. Our ancestors made it through all those millions of years without any of the advancements we now enjoy. They were strong and able to endure and it was certainly no weak person who tamed the first horse. If they had kept coming up against the challenge of nature and losing how would we be here? They lived in harmony with nature not at odds with it. They possessed a wealth of instinctive knowledge that allowed them to survive, reproduce, and raise their young.

What was that instinctive body of knowledge? We can begin to have a sense of it when we consider how the ancients lived in fresh air and sunshine drinking pure water resting and sleeping when the sunset, relying on the foods nature provided, living physically active lives, living in interdependence and in community.
