The Natural Way to Get Healthy Nails

Rosa Hayes
Nails that tend to break can be a problem especially when they do this below the quick on your finger. There are products everywhere that claim to help make your nails healthier and thicker but do these products actually work the best? There have been scientific studies to find the all natural way of making nails stronger.

Biotin is a natural substance that has been used often to treat damaged hooves on horses and now it is recommended for humans to help them with their nails. Our nails are made of the same material, keratin, which a horse's hoofs are made out of.

Biotin can increase your nail thickness up to 25 percent which is a lot better than using products such as nail hardeners that you purchase at stores like Wal-Mart. Most of these over the counter treatments, only work for a small amount of time or tend to not stay in place once they are applied. Nail hardeners can become expensive over time and may not even work for you.

Some great foods that carry a lot of Biotin are; peanuts, filberts, cashews, almonds, eggs, soybeans, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, fish, and vegetables like chard or carrots. These foods are have more benefits than just making your nails harder and thicker and are great tasting too. Most of these foods are used in everyday products or can be used while we are cooking.

The recommended dose is 300 micrograms a day of Biotin but I often leave a jar of peanuts or cashews by my work station so that I can snack on them between working at my computer.

If you choose to go the artificial way instead of eating these foods, you can purchase a Biotin supplement that will help you to get the same benefits. These supplements will usually come in the already recommended dose of 300 micrograms and can be purchased at most health food stores.

There are some other issues that can cause your nails to become thick or thin and if your problem persists, you should contact a doctor to rule out any other health related concerns such as diabetes or anemia. Some times things as small as our nails can be a warning sign for other medial problems that we often over look.

If you want healthy nails, take the plunge and start eating what's healthy for you or purchase the good ole stuff in a bottle.

Great info. I have the very problem of weak nails when they get to a certain length. I prefer not to let them grow too long because of this reason. I will have to look into this product. Thanks
