The Nature of Learner and Teacher and How it Affects Curriculum and Bias'ness

Michael Holt
Teaching is the most important career in a society. Being a teacher you provide knowledge, discipline, and a role model. No other job besides being a parent can usually have such a great effect on a population. Capable teachers can create capable students and in turn, create capable employees. Learners need capable teachers to create a dynamic and interactive environment, especially at a young age when attention can easily be drawn elsewhere.

The physical nature of the learner can not be pinpointed to one description. All students are unique in their ability to study, read, write and be progressive in their work, under many conditions. But outside the physical aspect of learning which varies greatly from student to student. Mentally a learner deals best with confidence in themselves and respect from the teacher and their surrounding pupils. Respect and confidence go hand in hand in the classroom. A student that is shown and can feel the respect of the class and the instructor has a much better chance of being confident to answer questions and to let their voice be heard among the class. The student will then absorb the information from class better because of the attention and participation that makes the class more interesting and enjoyable. A learner who is not shown respect from their teacher or are not respected by their classmates will feel a lot of pressure when they have the chance to participate. They could get nervous about humiliating themselves with a wrong answer that they will not try. Oftentimes the teacher could lose the attention of this student because the student will perceive the class as boring because of the lack of participation on the student's part.

The curriculum should envelope a myriad of practical subjects as well as subjects in the arts and mechanics. Students should have the chance to experience the wide variety of opportunities life outside of school has to offer them. Young children should have a better chance to find out what their interests are with a diverse curriculum and older students should be able to pursue their interests with chosen electives.

A teacher is responsible to be an unbiased, solid figure of authority with the ability to be caring. A teacher must also always hold themselves to a higher standard then others in a society to be respected as a positive role model. Being a teacher is more then teaching book knowledge. Other then parents, learners feed off of teachers to learn how to behave. A teacher must acknowledge the need for teaching discipline and self- control. These must be taught without being harsh or without ruining the student's confidence. Discipline should also never be given in anger and all decisions should be made in a logical manner according to what is good for the class first, then the individual student(s). A teacher must also be competent in the knowledge of the material to be taught.

Schools should take a large respectable role in society. School wide fund raisers for different causes should be encouraged. Community service provides opportunities to develop character, selflessness, and working experience and should also be available and encouraged. Every citizen in a community has to pay taxes for schools but not every citizen has children or even relatives in the school system. Keeping a friendly environment with the tax paying citizens is must to keep school buildings, materials, and extra-curricular activities improving.

Education is a universal right. In order for a society to grow and become stronger everyone who wants an education should be able to get one from capable instructors. Striving for knowledge is one of the most basic of human instincts. A teacher can provide this desire.
