THE NATURE of THINGS: COLORADO CHAINSAW ART

Over in Historic Manitou Springs, Colorado is one of this area's best kept secrets. Part of the grand entrance into Manitou, a rustic looking building, surrounded by bears, catches your attention immediately. Bill Fee's Nature of Things Chainsaw Art is definitely one of my favorite places in the Springs.

The Nature of Things Chainsaw Art is a unique business that carves bears, eagles, buffalo and more beautiful wooden sculptures. You can get Cigar Store Indians and more. In a recent interview, Bill explained to me what his business is built on. Everything they carve is from logs. All of the logs are brought in from places where they would normally be discarded. Bill never uses any logs or wood that was cut just for carving.

When you meet Bill for the first time, you instantly think "biker". Don't let the cool appearance fool you. Bill is a smart, creative, tough businessman that is all about getting the customer what they are looking for. He handles the front of the business and has a great customer service attitude. Customers are absolutely Bill's priority. He is friendly and knowledgeable about everything to do with carving.

The Nature of Things has about 6 employees. Bill employees 3 Master Carvers and 3 Trainees. He also pulls pieces of art from 4 different Carving Guilds. The Trainees have to complete a 4 year apprenticeship, then they can become a Guild. The Carving Guilds supply Bill with various carvings so he has many different types, for the requests he gets daily from customers.

Bill opened the business in 1993 and has proven to be a viable part of the Manitou Springs Business Community. He has a great customer base and is always expanding and adding things to get the word out about his unique business. His website is up and running and looks very good.

The Nature of Things Chainsaw Art brings alive the beauty and majesty of the Bears of Colorado. Standing in front of his store, you are surrounded by bears as small as a 1 ft tall to 3 ft. They are holding welcome signs, gone fishing signs and about any other sign you can think of. There are Military Bears, Firemen Bears, Nurse Bears and Mascot Bears. Eagles, Buffalo, and Bear are portrayed in busts and medallions. If you have a favorite dog, they can make a wooden portrait for you.
If you like Moose, these are so life like, they make you smile. From 1 to 4 ft, these guys would look great anywhere you put them. Bill has lazy bears, bears stuck in a log and so much more. His prices, also listed on his website, are very reasonable. How could you not invest in one of these? They last for many, many years and always look good.

The possibilities are endless at Bill's Shop. Their motto is, "We have very talented and gifted artist's, if you can dream it, chances are they can carve it. Just ask" !!! One of the neatest carvings I saw on the website, was the Harley Bear. Bill told me that this was a custom order and so he didn't have one in stock, when I was there. It was really creative. What a talented group of folks. Another indication that this is a fantastic place to stop in, when visiting Colorado. They also offer shipping anywhere.
