This is just the start for the NBA as they begin to head down a treacherous road. Instead of NBA owners actually running the league, we are left to young immature NBA players making decisions on where they want to play with their friends and earn a couple of rings.
The most recent addition to this group was the Charlotte Hornets' Chris Paul when he made the half hearted gesture about submitting a list of teams who he wanted to be traded to.
While the Hornets and their fans are relieved by Chris Paul's recent change of heart during a recent meeting, they better not get their hopes up too much.
Remember over the years, Paul has been growing increasingly close to the Lebron James' camp.
Paul has recently aligned himself with the LRMR marketing company, which is run by Lebron James. On top of that, Paul is represented by Leon Rose from CAA, who also represents the big name free agent, Carmelo Anthony, from the Denver Nuggets.
Paul has sheepishly discussed the option of following the LeBron James model and playing along side another super star.
You can book it now.
There will be another super team in the NBA by the time the 2011-2012 NBA regular season begins. Whether it is in New York or Orlando, NBA fans are going to be subjugated to another offseason where players, like Chris Paul or Carmelo Anthony, hold the league hostage and make the decisions on where to go.
Sadly there will probably be another ESPN special that is a bigger waste of time than off-season coverage of Brett Favre.
When things are said in done, there are going to be only a handful of NBA teams that will be competing for a NBA championship in a few years. Miami, Los Angeles, and Boston Celtics will be joined by the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, and perhaps the Dallas Mavericks as the rest of the team fall into the Other category.
There are some NBA experts in the media who say this new style of NBA is going to be a positive thing for the league. It will give NBA fans someone to cheer against, a team that fans can gather around and hate.
Instead if you are a fan of one of the "other" teams, your hopes for a championship will be dashed. They will be replaced by those rare regular season victories over one of the super teams.
If the NBA wants to saves themselves from an atrocious future commissioner David Stern needs to step in and take control of the diva basketball players. The longer Stein waits, the better chance he has of losing fans on a daily basis.
The only problem is that Stern had set these dominoes into affect many years ago when they began to market the league around their star players.
As a result the egos of their star players have gotten to big.
The younger players think they are bigger than the game itself and that everything should revolve around them and not the NBA franchises across the country.
There is still time for Stern to right this wrong. He needs to step in and take control of the situation. If fans see another super team form during the next NBA off-season, the rope is going to get even tighter around the next of the league.
