The Negative Aspects of Feminism: 5 Examples of Hypocrisy

Marty K.
Feminism is regarded by feminists as a great movement for women's rights. Is their cause legitimate or has liberalism changed the picture? Let's look at 5 major concerns:

1. Many Believe All Must Conform

A lot of feminists believe they represent all women, and that any woman who does not go along with their agenda is either sadly misguided or a traitor to the core. Usually, they are worthy of the utmost contempt.

2. Interpreting Various Matters as Women's Rights Issues, Whether They are or Not

When I wrote my article, "Should Divorce be Made Illegal Except for Unfaithfulness," I was talking about divorce, itself, as it pertains to both sexes. Amazingly, I came under vicious assault. People assumed that because I am a man, my motives for writing the article were to "trap women" into abusive marriages from which they can't escape.

This is most laughable and it had nothing, whatsoever, to do with the article. Yet, this is how they interpreted it without even knowing me. The real purpose of my commentary was to heighten the awareness of rampant divorce. I presented it as a question, followed by provocative text designed to make people think.

Another example of turning a topic into a women's rights issue is abortion. Extreme feminists tend to believe the world revolves around them, and they usually have little regard for the free speech of others.

3. The Hatred of Conservative Women Getting Ahead

This is one of the most obvious and disappointing examples of feminist two-facedness. Many within the women's rights movement only want the types of women who represent the leftist agenda.

We observed this sad double standard when Sarah Palin was running for the vice-presidency. Those in favor women's rights and advancement should have been thrilled, but instead they seemed to hate her guts because she wasn't their idea of a "real woman," or the type of woman that was a mirror image of Hillary Clinton.

4. Affirmative Action/Special Rights for Women

Westchester County, New York's website informs us, "When it comes to small business, Westchester County is committed to creating a level playing field and helping everyone succeed. That's why the county developed a program specifically promoting minority and women-owned business..."

With all due respect, this represents special rights, not equal rights. A "level playing field" cannot be created by government by putting some people ahead of others because of differences, and it degrades women by implying they can't succeed on their own.

If feminists are for equal rights, then why are they not protesting this? Could it be because they want equality to lead to special advantages?

5. The Legal System is Often Biased in Favor Women

In my article, "Feminist Jurisprudence at its Finest: Rape Shield Laws," I explained one area where women are given unique rights and presumption of innocence based on gender, and men are often presumed guilty until proven innocent based on gender.

Jeffrey Leving, of mensnewsdaily.com, writes, "Divorce is often regarded as one of the most stressful events in an adult's life. However, it is especially painful for men in our society due to blatant gender bias in our system. Most divorced men lose custody of their children, and have to pay substantial and sometimes onerous child support. This bias is evident when examining the raw numbers of custody rulings from jurisdictions across the United States. Mothers win 85 percent of all such disputes."

Again, we must ask why the women's rights movement does not stand against this, and wonder if there is an overall concern for fairness.

  • A lot of feminists believe they represent all women and those that don't go along are misguided.

  • Many don't want to see conservative women getting ahead.
We must ask why the women's rights movement is not out protesting inequality, if they are for equality.

No, they should not have "blindly" supported her. They (and you) COULD have supported her, but chose not to. This is because feminists usually find sensible women distasteful and believe they're traitors to their causes. In our present world, the sincere people with good hearts are vilified, and all of the scumbags are glorified.

Are you truly implying that a "feminist" (someone who believes in equal rights for women) should have blindly supported Sarah Palin just because she was a woman? That's just silly, and in fact is the opposite of what most feminists would think. But you're right about the fact that I can't speak for all women. So I'll just say that for ME, I believe that in reserving my right to seriously dislike Ms. Palin because of who-she-is I was excersing my feminist and God-given voice. :)

When thinking is cause and effect on a linear line, your points are well taken. So, how do we humans (male & female)make a better world together? That is both the question and the answer!
