The Negative Aspects of NLP Hypnosis

An immaculately thin thread separates the disciplines of meditation and hypnosis from one another. On the one hand while meditation leads to relaxation while staying in reality and perceiving it also, hypnosis on the other hand leads us to the dreamy state of sub-consciousness where reality seems to be a far away place. But on a serious note we can assert that hypnosis is not as good as it might seem to be. There are a few reasons for that. Let us now by help of examples probe in to find why hypnosis is not as good as it seems to be.

For example let's think of a lone captive, sitting all by himself in his meager cell, which is empty except for an iron bed and a window through which the ray of the sun is entering. The captive is intensely speculating about a single dust particle making dance patterns in the air, violating the laws of gravity. Now the prisoner can either keep on watching the particle listlessly, aware of the particle's total spatial position hence aware of his individual position in the cell in a prison or else he can objectify the particle and make it a vehicle for the complete obliviousness of his situation. The first is his meditation and the second is his self hypnosis.

Therefore if hypnosis can let you attain oblivion, even if short lived, then what is actually wrong with it? Isn't it a pretty good way of relaxation? The next example will fully illustrate the answer.

If for example, you are given the responsibility of looking after a young child and say, for example, you cannot resist the urge of listening to music. In fact you get so enchanted by it that you loose consciousness of your surroundings and completely get enmeshed in it. This then is a type of hypnosis. Now the bad part is, if at that time the baby, by any chance, intakes any harmful substance or gets locked in anywhere and the situation turns worse with you oblivious of your surroundings, then I hope you understand that it is not a very healthy or ideal situation.

Hence staying in the present, fully conscious of the surrounding is important. Not does it only help you to stay safe but enables you to keep others safe as well. Getting engrossed in something and losing yourself completely in it, even for a moment, leads you and those, that you are responsible for, in unaccounted danger which might put you in serious jeopardy. So I hope that now you are aware of the shortcomings of hypnosis and would in future take care in not letting such a situation arise and pose a threat to you and your dear ones.
