The Next Big Thing - The GPhone?

Fischer Sharpe
Many rumor websites and a few reported "insider" (your mileage may vary in the truthfulness of this term) have reported that we may be seeing a Google phone (perhaps called the g-Phone) released in the next few months. The phone has become the mythical unicorn of Google fanatics, and all sorts of methods are being tried in order to see if it will actually become a reality, or if it is just vaporware.

The phone is purported to be extremely cheap, and to run the Linux operating system. The phone will likely introduce all of the Google services in a wireless form factor. Some industry experts have even concluded that Google is trying to obtain a direct link between the customers that will see its advertisements, and itself. Overtime this business strategy has proven to be extremely profitable to the business because the business will own all mediums before the product (advertisements in our case) reach the consumer.

Numerous signs have shown that Google has something planned for the wireless industry. The main factor to consider here is that Google has acknowledged plans to start bidding on the 700 MHz range that the FCC is putting up for sale. Industry experts have determined that it would be highly profitable for Google to send location based advertisements that would match the users taste perfectly. Just imagine walking down the street around dinner time, and instantly seeing an advertisement for the nearest pizza restaurant. Considering that Google knew that pizza was your favorite food, and that every Tuesday you had a tendency to go out to a pizza restaurant with your family.

Would this be an invasion of privacy? Or a convenience for all parties involved. You would get the meal you wanted at a reasonable price, the restaurant would get more business, and Google would make a tidy some of profit. I would imagine that all such services could be turned off, if you would be willing to pay Google a hefty fee that would compensate them for the lost advertising dollars.

There are numerous signs that point to this interesting new direction that America's favorite new business might be taking in the next few years, it would fit into Google's business goal of "organizing the worlds information", and most industry experts agree that it would earn a tidy sum of cash and perhaps even transform Google from an internet based company to an extremely successful wireless company.

Good reporting. I first heard about this yesterday on NPR. It sounds like this could be great for consumers.
