The Next RateMyProfessors?

New Rating Site Lets Users View Course Difficulty Based on Past Student's Grades

Joe Levy
When it comes to picking classes, nobody wants to make the wrong choice. Everyone wants to make sure there courses are interesting, easy going, and fun. Most people also want courses they can get a good grade in without breaking their back. For these reasons, the pursuit of information on college courses takes up a large amount of time before class registration every semester. Most students flock to RateMyProfessors, but more and more it seems students are discovering a new site -- GradeABase.

GradeABase, a new site founded just 6 months ago, is already well on its way to success. GradeABase (www.GradeABase.com) helps college students pick their classes by providing information on college courses that can't be found anywhere else. This site lets users see just how difficult their college courses really are, based on the grades past students received, as well as the effort those students put in. The site also lets students view reviews, recommendations, and even teacher statistics about their courses.

Another cool idea GradeABase looks into is its "Compare Your Grade" feature. Using this feature, students can compare the grades they received in their classes to the grades everyone else in the class received. Information provided includes what percentage of students received a better/same/worse grade than you, as well as what percentage of students worked harder/as hard/less hard than you. All this information is displayed in visual graphs that allows for easy interpretation of the information. Not only that, but GradeABase provides a "Where You Fit" features that shows you exactly where you fall in the class based on your grade and effort put in. At the time this article was written, GradeABase was the only website on the internet offering a compare grade feature.

The site already contains course info on over 200 schools, and has over 2,000 grades in its database. Best of all, it's Free!

Now, will this site beat the gargantuan RateMyProfessors? Probably not. But what RateMyProfessors did for teachers, GradeABase does for courses.
I can't wait to see how the site develops -- it's definitely caught my attention. Check it out at www.GradeABase.com and see for yourself. I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
