The NFL 2008 Detroit Lions Worst Record in History

The Detroit Lions haven't been a team that anyone has paid much attention to over the past few years. Even if they had won a Super Bowl within a past six or seven years, which they haven't, their recent history making season would still overshadow it all. The Detroit Lions have officially completed their 2008 regular season with the worst record in NFL history.

The worst record in NFL history is now 0-16. Before the 2008 Detroit Lions, the last team to complete a season without a single victory was the 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who ended their season at 0-14.

There is no doubt that this horrible history making season will permanently scar all players, coaches, and everyone else who were a part of the Detroit Lions during the 2008 regular season. Lions coach Rod Marinelli is facing a somewhat dark future as far as this team is concerned. Coaches across the NFL have gotten fired just for not taking their team to the playoffs. "This is not fun to go through, obviously, but there's people going through a lot worse than this," said Marinelli.

It's pretty bad when a player of a competitive team has trouble remembering when their last victory was. The last time the Detroit Lions won a game was in 2007, beating the Kansas City Chiefs 25-20 in Weak 16. Before that the Lions lost six in a row which means that they have lost 23 out of their last 24 games. Even though they weren't by any means the worst team last year in 2007, not being able to get one victory this year has got to hurt.

What is ironic about this is that the Lions won all of their preseason games. That pretty much goes to show you that there really is a difference between the preseason, the regular season, and the playoffs. Competitors are in a totally different state of mind throughout the various levels of play. The last time the Detroit Lions won a playoff game was in 1992 against the Cowboys in the divisional game. The Lions lost the following week in the NFC championship game against the Redskins.

Since Matt Millen had become president of the Detroit Lions in 2001 the team hasn't been much of winners. Matt Millen was fired on Sept. 24, 2008. Even though he has not been with the team for this entire season, people will look at this has been part of his era in which Detroit had won only 31 games over the course of 8 seasons.
