Wade Souza
39. Jacksonville Jaguars, 2006

Team Achievements: 31-33, 11-5 and Wild-Card berth in 2007.
The Jaguars' 2003 Selections: Marcedes Lewis, TE, UCLA (No. 28)
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, UCLA (No. 60)
Clint Ingram, LB, Oklahoma (No. 80)
Brent Hawkins, DE, Illinois State (No. 160)
James Wyche, DE, Syracuse (No. 213)
Dee Webb, CB, Florida (No. 236)

Class Accolades: Marcedes Lewis - 123 career receptions, 1,524 yards, 7 touchdowns.
Maurice Jones-Drew - Pro Bowl in 2009, 5,706 yards from scrimmage, 54 total touchdowns, 201 receptions, No. 2 in rushing touchdowns in 2009 (15), No. 2 in rushing yards per attempt in 2006 (5.7), 14+ touchdowns and 1,300+ yards from scrimmage in three out of four NFL seasons.
Clint Ingram - 191 tackles, 5.5 sacks as 4-year starter.
Brent Hawkins - 5.5 sacks in 20 games with Jacksonville.

Overall Draft Analysis: Undoubtedly, the Jaguars' stunning selection of Jones-Drew at No. 60 ranks amongst the most valuable picks of the past decade. Single-handedly, MoJo warrants the class's inclusion amongst the top 50. At the tender age of 24, the former Bruin already ranks No. 11 amongst active backs in rushing touchdowns with 49 in four seasons. With merely a single 200+ carry season to date, expect Jones-Drew's future productivity to continue at an elite level. The Jags' disappointing supporting cast and 12-20 record during the past two seasons further illuminate MJD's ascension to rarified air as a rising superstar rusher.

Although Jones-Drew's teammate at UCLA, Lewis, has failed to meet first round standards, the tight end's receiving yards continue to steadily increase each NFL season. In retrospect, the Jaguars would have benefited greatly from the depth of the 2006 tight end class, by drafting Owen Daniels, Tony Scheffler, Anthony Fasano, or even fifth rounder Jeff King, with one of its later selections. In contrast, Ingram has proven a steady performer as the Jags' starting outside linebacker, yet, likely becomes a free-agent this off-season. The team's other three selections collectively garnered minimal on-field impact, with Hawkins' 5.5 sacks highlighting the group of late-round picks.

Ultimately, Jones-Drew has outperformed each of the running backs selected earlier in the '06 draft, including Reggie Bush, Laurence Maroney, Deangelo Williams, Joseph Addai, and Lendale White. If the Jaguars hope to regain the team's 2007 "mojo," MoJo will likely serve as the critical catalyst.
