The No Cussing Challenge

Ashley Woods
McKay Hatch, only 14 years old, started the No Cussing Club at his junior high school in South Pasadena, California in 2007. McKay disliked the way some of his class mates and close friends used dirty language on a day-to-day basis. He thought it was unattractive and disrespectful so he challenged his classmates and friends to stop cussing. Some of his friends admitted that they used profanity so often that they did not know how to stop so McKay developed the No Cussing Club to help his fellow students.

In just a month, the No Cussing Club gained 50 members from his high school. Once the word started to spread about his club, people in his city began asking how they could become members.

McKay has an extremely positive attitude and a lot of ambition for being so young. He says encouragement and support are vital in helping each other to stop cussing.

McKay astounds me as he says, "Through the No Cussing Challenge I realized that I could use POSITIVE PEER PRESSURE on my friends. If my friends could say no to cussing, how much easier will it be for them to say no to drugs, violence, and pornography." (Source: nocussing.com)

McKay hopes to help others by being a positive influence to everyone he meets. The Club's motto is: "LEAVE PEOPLE BETTER THAN YOU FOUND THEM!" (Source: nocussing.com)

The No Cussing Challenge is not only about trying to stop cussing; it is about uplifting others with positive ideas and words. What a wonderful idea! On the No Cussing Club's website, www.nocussing.com, you have the opportunity to become a member of the club and take part in the challenge. The club's popularity has spread to all fifty states and has received a lot of media attention. McKay has appeared on CBS, FOX NEWS, and NBC.

What would happen if more people were to take on that challenge every day? I personally believe we need more kids and adults to stand up for what they believe like McKay has done.

I pray many would rise up and stand behind this young man's effort. I am a grand mother and find the DVD's are hard to find without profanity. Do the people who make them ever consider how it effects the children that watch them? What can we expect of America's youth if they are fed such garbage? What would happen if more would take a stand for righteousness in this country? Thank you, young man, for making a difference in your country for what is right.! May God bless you, McKay Hatch, and keep you strong for what is right in all that you do. I pray Dr. Phil will take note ,and change his use of profanity also. When we have the opportunity to affect so many people for what will make for a better life there should not be a double standard. Today I am thanking God for the voice of a young person unashamed to take a stand for what is right. Grandma, Betty

Great job.I just saw you on Dr. Phil. I don't like to hear all those words.I use to work at a high school and I have gotten
on to a couple of the kids.I was a lunch lady and I refused to serve one boy.I told him he wouldn't talk in my line useing
words like that and that I could bring a bar of soap to wash his mouth out. He told me he was sorry and he didn't talk
like that any more like that when he was in my line.Thats what you call respect of others.I use to be real bad about cussing
untill I got to hear myself and the way it sounded and it doesn't sound nice at all.x
Good luck to you, I hope you go along way with this.
God bless you and I will be praying for you.

This was a really noble challenge that McKay started. It's good to hear of positive actions that teenagers are taking rather than so much negative press about them.
