The Noble Terrapin and Me(ow)!

A cat's a beast of meager friends.
Our ways are strange.
Past most beasts' ken.
Among ourselves
we seldom share.
So most folks think
We just don't care!
But that's not true!
We're just discerning!
Our friendship's won
through patient earning!
That is why my favorite friend
is a noble terrapin!
He's quiet
and he's not intrusive.
In fact to most
he's darned elusive!!
But when he trusts
a kindred soul,
out he trundles
from his hole!
My friend and I
we pass the time
soaking sun
and thinking rhyme!
Without a sound
we two commune,
reptile and mammal
in perfect tune!!
"Do you like worms?"
his thoughts intone.
"No," think I
"They have no bones!"
"Say!" he thinks,
"Do you like to swim?"
"Meow, only after
things with fins!!!"
Asks he, "Do you
enjoy bananas?"
"I'd rather walk
on a piana!!"
So passes our lofty
conversation,
Free from canine
domination!!
(Too bad I don't know
a Dalmatian!!)
