Wagged his pendulum tail
In perpetual oscillation
Like the human mind.
The past showed itself
In black and white
How brutal this time is
Making fun of life.
Childhood gasped
In the ocean of Dreams.
Fairy tales of yore
Taught him Immortality.
Like a spy
Love crept in.
Its tentacles
Made the Child a Man.
Youth sprang
Out of the shells
Of care, of vigil
Of Parental warmth.
The ever evading
Responsibility
Peeked into Life
When children came.
Once again
Burst the shells
Of care, of vigil
Of Parental warmth.
Child became Father
And Father Child.
Age had signed on his face
Its wrinkled autographs.
The easy chair
Bears an uneasy soul
Looking into vanity
Beyond the walls.
The nostalgic clock
Wagged his pendulum tail
In perpetual oscillation
Like the human mind.

Post a CommentBeautifully crafted poem. A masterpiece and one of my favourite poems now. I too have written on the nature of time, but this one is in a league of its own. You have beautifully described the predictability of the life-cycle of man. So what is the conclusion? Should we try to break free of this predictability? Get rid of this monotony?
