In Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most, Maya must make life-altering decisions about the direction of her life. Will she finally have a normal life, going to a normal school and have normal social interaction with her friends? Or will she find, that like her famous rock-star father, she is more suited to life on the road with the rock band Redemption? What happens when Maya's mother is released from prison and wants a life with her daughter?

No matter how hard she tries, life keeps getting in the way of Maya's desires and plans. But no matter what happens, Maya isn't about to let anything derail her crusade to teach others how to be green and to care for and about the environment.

While I don't buy all the hype about Global Warming, I do agree with the message Melody Carlson sends in Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most, ISBN 978-1-60142-119-7, Multnomah Books, a division of Random House. We are all responsible for keeping the environment clean, green and safe for our generation and for all those who follow.

In the Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most, Maya writes a column giving advice about how to be green and keep our environment safe and healthy. But author Melody Carlson in Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most goes further than to make this a passing interest of the main character Maya.

It is obvious Melody Carlson is herself a proponent of being green and environmentally friendly. While Melody Carlson's Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most is an interesting story about a teen with very real struggles, each chapter ends with practical green tips entitled Maya's Green Tip for the Day. One of these encourage the drinking of cold tea or lemonade while turning up the AC. Drinking cool beverages serves to cool and hydrate, which makes this more green and environmentally friendly than blasting the AC.

Another green tip in Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most is to pass used electronics to a friend or donate to an organization that will repair or recycle it. Doing so is green, good for you, the organization and the environment. Much better than throwing it away where it would end up in a landfill. That isn't green and not environmentally friendly, considering most electronics contain hazardous materials.

Another good green tip in Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most is to plant a tree. Trees improve the quality of the air, offer protection and shade (once they're grown), protect the soil and increase property values. Trees are green and good for our environment in many ways.

Non-fiction books provide practical information. Novels such as Melody Carlson's Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most show practical applications and are usually more fun to read. Melody Carlson in Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most does both. In Diary of a Teenage Girl What Matters Most, Melody Carlson tells the story without graphic sex, violence or language that scorches the brain. While the characters struggle, they also have mentors who have a foundation of caring and faith.

A fun and informational novel for teens. It is green, clean and rockin' with positive values and practical ways teens can help make their environment safe and healthy. Suitable for your teen, especially those interested in the environment and being green.
