The NY Giants Pull Off the Biggest Win in Sports History with Upset of Patriots

This game was not supposed to be close. The New England Patriots were 18-0, knocking on the door of history, trying to become the first team ever to become 19-0 in a single season; better than even the Miami Dolphins 1972 season when they went 17-0. The Patriots just forgot one thing: You need to win the Super Bowl. In arguably the biggest upset in sports history, the Giants did the unthinkable in beating league MVP Tom Brady and the New England Patriots 17-14.

The Giants were 13 point underdogs at tip off and almost every football analyst picked against them. Not me. I had faith in my Giants. This was one dedicated team that was on a quest for history. Michael Straham remember what is was like to lose the 2000 Super Bowl to the Baltimore Ravens which is why he had a game changing fumble, stripping Patriots quarterback Tom Brady of the ball as the Giants recovered. This was one head coach in Tom Coughlin who has been grinning ear to ear this season as the Giants came into the game with 10 straight road wins.

Throughout the entire game this was a defensive struggle. The Giants defensive line displayed why they had the most sacks in the league as they sacked Tom Brady 5 times in what was thought to be the best offensive line in the league. The Giants defensive line also had numerous hurries and pressures of Tom Brady, including a forced fumble by Straham. Justin Tuck had a great game and consistently put pressure on Tom Brady. That is the reason why the Giants won the game; along with Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning of course.

Eli Manning showed why he will be a star in this football league for years to come, matching his brother Peyton's Super Bowl win in last year's game. The Patriots must feel dizzy after getting beat by different Mannings in back to back years. Last year the Colts beat the Patriots in the playoffs on their way to their Super Bowl win.

In the fourth quarter with time ticking down, every sports fan who was watching the game knew that Tom Brady would lead his team down field for the game winning score just like he has done countless times in the past and in previous Super Bowl games. What people didn't expect, was that Eli Manning would lead his team down the field for the final game winning score as wide receiver Plaxico Burress caught the game winning touchdown. Eli Manning would finish the game with 255 yards passing.

This game will certainly go down in history books as one of the best Super Bowls ever and one of if not the biggest upset in sports history. I was glad I got to watch every minute of it and be a part of history in the making.

Interesting but I disagree about it being the greatest upset in sports history. Personally, I felt the Pats Super Bowl victory over the Rams was a bigger upset or here's a baseball one, the Yankees getting stunned after being up 3-0 against the Red Sox in 2004. I agree with the point about the Colts getting beat by the Jets was a very huge one.

The Giants are a good team and it wasn't luck they won. They won because they simply outplayed New England and did what was needed to be done and that's stop the offense in general. The defense was the difference either way.

    Nevertheless, an interesting piece.

Cheaters never prosper. It used to be a common belief in sports. Never again in the NFL. 18-1. Well, sorry all you deluded Patsy fans, but how can you be the Greatest Team of All Time if you can't even beat the NY Giants? Perfect does more than imply greatness in professional sports; it confirms it. Dolphins yes, Patsies no.

Dang, how could I forget my homies (see below). The Pistons over the Lakers in '04 was probably as big of an upset as this, it's just that basketball isn't America's dominant patriotic warlike Las Vegas sport like King Football.

OK, I'll offer a second box of remarks. First, your avatar looksk like a Cowboys' road uniform. (Ha!) But second and seriously, if you were watching on TV, were you just freakin' out or did you want to see some postgame highlights? Fox is so-so-so terrible. I noticed it in earlier playoffs. Their postgame show is nothing but commercials. Nothing. No game analysis, not a single highlight rerun. Howie long sits in the studio all game long just to comment, "Wow, it was a surprise, Eli Manning came of age before our eyes." Smf pp z0d z9oopd zzzz zzzzzzzz9 (oops) and that was all for the postgame. They didn't even interview the dude who made the circus catch on that last drive. If that ball gets picked off instead, all of a sudden Eli "coming of age" is just a big goat again. Football is so subjective. The Giants scored a whopping 17 points, why is Eli the big hero? The defense won it. -- Mike again

C'mon, Hard Worker, I was sort of pulling for the Giants also, but biggest upset in history? First, Jets over Colts in '69 was WAY bigger. So was Villanova over Georgetown for NCAA hoops in the middle '80s. For that matter, once the Red Sox were behind the Yanks 0-3 in 2004, for the Sox to come back, that was bigger than this. Basketball's my sport and I'm not much for football, but I would have bet the Giants at least against the spread before the game, because I figured they would put a rush on Brady. Other stupid coaches just sat back and let the Pats pick 'em apart. I'm from Michigan and was Brady was at U-M, he wasn't the best at handling the heat.......but if you're a big fan, enjoy it, it wasn't lucky, your guys outplayed both the Packers and the Pats. -- Mike
