The Obama Prayer. Free Speech or in Poor Taste?

A Corrections Officer Gets in Trouble Over Exercising His First Amendment Rights

Jay Braun
I was looking around online and found a story about a corrections officer from Manatee County Florida getting into trouble at his job over what was being dubbed as the "Obama Prayer". The situation begs the question of do we really have freedom of speech within reason in this country, or only when it's politically correct. I am leaning more towards the latter than the former the way things are going today. Barack Hussein Obama has managed to divide America more than any President since Abraham Lincoln.

Sgt. Mathew Neu was suspended for roughly one shift because of "conduct unbecoming and employee" with a "perceived" threat against Barack Hussein Obama. The prayer that was referenced was Psalms 109.8. It reads "May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership". That verse is what almost every republican, most independents and a majority of independents are praying for. The problem is the next part of the scripture reads.

"May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.

May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven

from their ruined homes. May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder

the fruits of his labor. May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his

fatherless children. May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from

the Next Generation"................. and so on

What occurred was he had it in a Bible that was on a desk shared by many employees and a co-worker had seen a piece of paper that said Obama Prayer on it. Martha Nash found it and read it when she arrived for her shift September 29. I am sure she is a person who follows Obama blindly as she had though "the passage would be supportive of the President". She spoke with other employees and then decided to report the incident. Many of these employees said it was well know that Neu was not a fan of Obama. Sadly most people who love America don't like Obama and the reverse is true. Neu admitted that he was not a fan of Barack Hussein Obama but did not mean it as any threat. He found it online and found it appropriate and funny. Sgt. Neu said " In hindsight maybe it wasn't the smart thing to do... I should have been more careful where I left it or, or whatever,". I think the liberals and a majority of Negroes will call for his head. What is sad is that when people were burning George Bush in effigy there was not this kind of outrage. We get a half Negro President and everyone wants to make disagreement with him or his policies about race. If anything he is getting more of a pass because of his race than it being used against him. The media especially plays a part in this. Many congressmen and some Senators laid their careers on the line for him and got sent packing in November. I have never seen our elected leaders defy the will of the American people the way that liberals did over Obamacare. Several said they did not want his "legacy" tarnished by failing to get healthcare passed. Several others implied it. Regardless I think it's safe to say it was a pyrrhic victory at best with the election results.

Personally I think the first part of the passage is very appropriate. When I read the following passage it appears to be praying for him to be dead, which I think is wrong. I don't think large amounts of people want to see Obama dead just out of office. I would say that it was in poor taste. I don't think the guy should have been suspended. If he was passing it out on work time that would have been one thing, but there is a double standard. I am sure if he was passing something about how great Obama is or the ACLU there would not have been the same fuss made. That is the problem. The same happens in schools. Black kids can wear shirts that say "first black president" and most of the time the school takes no action, but if kids wear shirts that say "Keep the change" with the Obama logo people get upset. That is the type of double standard of how we judge people in this country based on race.

Every President has taken heat from the Media. I am not well up there in my years yet, but I recall every President being lampooned by various comedians and things like this occurring. Yet anything that occurs when people don't agree with the policies of Obama they are called a racist. No one called people racist when they did not agree with President George Bush. Personally I think that Obama had very high expectations and that is part of his problem. He ran on those and embraced them to get elected. The reality is that he was not ready. I think it took real audacity to even run for the office since he only was in the Senate two years and only had minimal experience prior to that. He also gave us a first lady that is ashamed of the country. She had said "For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country" after Barack Obama won the Democratic primary. This is what you gave us America. She is ashamed of the country if he had lost, but when her half Negro husband is nominated she is proud. Seems like a fair weather fan to me. Barack Hussein Obama. If you can't take the heat you need to get out of the kitchen. You chose to run for the job and need to do it.

God Bless You and God bless America.

Others wish they only got one day off for not liking BO. There are no common sense ids, that want to punish or force people to like BO.

It's always sad that people don't bother to understand context of the scriptures before they assume some position. The essence of it is indeed not flattering to Obama, but if the 109th Psalm is read from the beginning, it's clear that King David was plagued by people having set against him without cause, even though he had been good to them. The Psalm is basically a prayer for God to give them what they deserve. This corrections officer did the same thing those here who are offended are doing. He extracted the particular verses which he felt applied to his disagreement with Obama's policies, but deigned include those which sounded like wishing him harm. In contrast, those here who are "offended" are extracting the later verses which advance THEIR agenda, which is the vilification of people THEY disagree with.

WOW! It looks like your "guests" may have misinterpreted what you were saying, or they only read the first page. But, it's always dangerous to use one part of a scripture if what follows is negative - because someone may go and look it up!

And it looks like no matter what he does or did you will blindly follow him. Yes blacks were brought here by whites, but Do you think even lincoln would have not rethought his position if he could see today?

You got some nerve! I don't know you , but just from reading this article, I know exactly where you stand! So it doesn't matter what President Obama does you will find a problem with it, If you ask me with out a doubt you are the raciest one! And yes no one made this kind of fuss when Bush was in office, because he was raciest also so game recognize game, I believe all the hate is really because of the guilt! that;s been done throughout the history of this country! and those in power that thinks like you, so afraid of losing whats been going on forever or since you brought African Americans HERE....
