"The Objective" - Might Be to Leave the Audience Guessing?

Roz Zurko

"The Objective," a movie about special forces investigating what might be a UFO, doesn't bring the audience to the "wow" factor.

The ideas behind this movie would be enough to bring both fans of war movies and sci-fi movies out to the theater, but as far as "The Objective" goes, ideas are about all it is offering.

Jona Ball plays Undercover agent Benjamin Keynes, who narrates this doomed mission in a voice that lets you know its doomed. They are searching for a terrorist "Muhammad."

The ancient Indian flying saucers, Vimanas , arrive and pose more problems for this mission. An easy out for spending the money on special effects are the over abundance of scenes filmed through infra-red cameras. These blurry scenes let suggestions be made about "The Objective" without presenting anything tangible for the eyes.

The movie leaves the viewer guessing because you never find out what the mission was, or what the aliens want. It takes over an hour of watching this special operations team go through the desert before you are let in on the secret of why they are there.

Yes, the movie's objective is probably to leave the audience guessing. It is reminiscent to the "Blair Witch Project," on some level where the clues are there, but just suggestions of other evil things linger about. It isn't as motion sickness comparable to the "Blair Witch Project," but there are times that it is too jumpy.
