Viewers love the show format, the writing, wacky humor, and even the dry witty humor, like the jokes that Michael Scott, regional manager of Dunder Mifflin, (Steve Carell) has to explain to the staff or that die a quick death during a staff meeting.
One of the best things about "The Office" is the never-ending office pranks, compliments of Jim.
Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) shares a cramped work space with Dwight (Rainn Wilson). Jim spends an inordinate amount of time thinking of ways to play practical jokes on Dwight, which is not difficult to do. Dwight, the assistant to the regional manager, spends his time warding off Jim's immature trickery.
One of Jim's best stunts was to encase Dwight's stapler in Jell-O. JelloStapler.com has numerous examples of office pranksters who have pulled off the same or similar stunts. There are office staplers in Jell-O, but there are also glasses, calculators, name plates, paper clips, and even a gift card. A group of students took "The Office" prank to class, encasing a physics book in Jell-O.
One of the best tricks Jim ever played on Dwight was when he put all of his personal belongings from his desk and wallet in the vending machine. Classic move. Oh, that we could only duplicate that in the office. Not a joke that can be realistically repeated on the job, but one that sure is funny.
I'm not sure which was worse, putting all of Dwight's personal belongings in the vending machine or finding his wallet and canceling all of his credit cards. -The vending machine, it had to be more humiliating.
There are so many times that Jim wraps up Dwight in verbal battles that they are too numerous to count. One of the most memorable was when Michael was gone and left Jim in charge of a staff meeting. Ostensibly, Dwight was going to protect himself by recording the meeting, claiming he was doing so on Michael's orders.
When Dwight pulled out the tape recorder Jim wittily turned the tables, asking Dwight not to take off his pants in the staff meeting. He went on to describe Jim as completely nude and holding a knife to Stanley's neck. Dwight fumbled the tape recorder off, Jim remained deadpan, and the audience got another fun-filled laugh from "The Office" repertoire of pranks.
