"The Office" Recap: Ballad of the Fallen

Jenna de Salea
Let me just say, Will Ferrell better bring his 'A' Game if there is any hope whatsoever of this show regaining a shred of mojo. Because it's already DOA half way through the season. Last night's show was just so awful, and worst of all, not even funny! Stick a fork in it at this point...it's just over.

So we begin with Kelly and Ryan flogging a dead storyline to death with the whole marriage/divorce thing. Unfunny. And that's sad because they are probably the most talented on the whole show in terms of writing...they come up with THAT for themselves? Ugh...

Then Jim and Michael head out on the road, and Jim abandons Michael in a gas station bathroom, of course without anything. No phone. No wallet. Hilarity is supposed to ensue.

But it doesn't. It just turns into a lame and sad "Death of a Salesman" type mood as Michael meanders about town trying to score free food. I mean, that's what it basically was. Hot dogs, Chinese Food...downright heartbreaking when he couldn't dine and dash! Gah! I don't want my sitcoms so maudlin!

And in an equally lame part of the story, Dwight, Holly and Erin set out for Michael, and it turns into Holly "the Michael Whisperer" intuitively knowing where Michael is because they're love lorn star crossed soul mates.

Seriously, this is a recap of "The Office" NOT "90210" ..I swear.

Back at Dunder Mifflin, a caption contest is going on, and it's really the "Gabe Roasting Hour" which could have been funny, but again, it was just raunchy and mean. Something "The Office" in all of its past intelligence has never had to be. A full room of the brightest improv actors and THAT'S the best they can do?

In the end, in excruciating predictability, Holly finds Michael on the roof and they "find each other" ha! Get it? Because they're star crossed love lorn soul---

Yeah. We get it.

Sorry if this seems like a harsh recap, but when the bar has been set so high, and it just seems like everything about this show has already checked out with Michael Scott leaving, it's time to either pack it in, or find something new to do in Scranton.

What did you think of the episode?
