I am not for sure what prompted me to rent this movie but I am sure glad I did. The movie handles such a taboo subject perfectly without all the course sex jokes. The writer did a great job of showing us how sex can leave us extremely vulnerable and ultimately run our lives if we let it. I thought this movie was just going to be about sex but it is so much more then just sex. It is a self-discovering journey for both Priscilla and Jack.
Parker Posey was excellent as Priscilla. She went ten years happily married to her husband and not even bothered by not having an orgasm but unfortunately it drove her husband crazy enough to run out on their marriage. Left to her own devices, Priscilla discovers the joy of vibrator. She also has a couple of one night stands that leave her empty inside with the realization that she is frigid during sex. I was so moved by the scene when she is sharing with her friend that she just wishes she could let go for just one second so she can feel alive. My other favorite actor in the film was Danny Devito. He was a nice surprise as Wayne the pool guy who gives Priscilla her first orgasm without a mechanical aid. At first Wayne and Priscilla seem an odd match but the chemistry between them seemed so real and so natural that it didn't see that all odd when they ended up together.
I did like the scene when Jack meets his girlfriend's father and he finally realizes sleeping with his student is just wrong even if she is a legal age. Paul Rudd is a great actor too and I could feel his character was creeped out by the meeting with the father even though he didn't say anything. His looks were priceless. The DVD has some deleted scenes and one of them is of Jack breaking up with his student.
I give the movie 5 out of 5 stars. It is a hidden gem that I hope a lot of people discover.
