Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures bring forth the third movie in the popular movie franchise. The original director, Ivan Reitman returns and will also produce, along with executive producers, movie veterans Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. And yes, thanks to the success of James Cameron's recent film, Avatar, there is the rumored chance of the film showing in 3D.
As for the script writers, we welcome two of the writers from the Office, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. Originally, around 2005, one of the draft scripts from Dan Aykroyd was about the Ghostbusters opening up a Hell form of New York City. The latest script (supposedly rumored), according to several sources and a filmed interview with Sigourney Weaver, reveals that the original cast returns as mentors, mainly to pass along their work to a new, younger team of Ghostbusters.
Weaver reported that yes, Dan Aykroyd (Ray), Bill Murray (Peter), Harold Ramis (Egon), and Ernie Hudson (Winston) do return, however, there are a few twists. The first one, as we already know, is of the team returning as mentors, with smaller parts in the film. However, there is a possibility as Peter Venkman (get this) returning as a ghost. Dana's son Oscar might actually be one of the latest Ghostbusters. Weaver said she unsure if she will be in the third film, although, there is the chance that she might.
So, is there a chance that the third installment might be good, despite it being 21 years later and our beloved characters with smaller roles? I'm unsure if it can top the first two. But, like many of the Ghostbusters fans out there, I will be ready to see this film when it comes out. This not-yet-rated film is due to supposedly hit theaters Summer of 2011.
NOTE: Since the film is in post-production, the script and cast can change. Please stay tuned for updates.
