The One that Got Away! a Fish Tale for the Holiday Season

Kris McLeod
Every holiday, we hope that we have been careful and have chosen items that will withstand the test of time and be a durable toy for our children. This year was no different from any other in the fact that we patiently waited as our children opened their gifts to see what delighted them the most.

In all, this was a very successful year. Our youngest two would have been happy with one gift each, and they both maintained their top choices through out the wait until Christmas morning. For our eight year old it was a pair of skates, and our five year old, a Handy Manny repair truck. Both were delighted and we were careful to only add a few additional items not to take away from the joy of the items they wanted most.

One of these side items was an adorable fishing game. These little fish poke their heads up out of a pond as the table turns around while you try to catch the small fish with a magnetic fishing pole.

My first thought with this toy is that the fishing poles would be the first to go. These actually have stood up quite well, and the first casualty of our holiday toys was one of the fish.

As I looked at the poor little broken fish today, my daughters assured me that I could glue him back together, but looking at the mechanics behind the small plastic toy, I have my doubts.

Even if I do manage to glue the cute guy together, I'm not sure he will be able to open and close his mouth properly to catch him with a fishing pole. At the very least, there is still a pretty full pond to fish from, even though we are down one fish.

Perhaps, I will glue him back together and he will forever be the one that got away.
