The Online Guilty Pleasure I Cannot Resist: GOSSIP!

Why I Make Myself Sick with This Delightful Junk

Lauren
It is filler for the brain, the junk food of reporting. But, man, I love this stuff!

What is Lindsay Lohan doing right.this.minute? What kind of mesh shirt has her dad been photographed in lately? Oh, no... Miley Cyrus has a new tattoo -- ripe for delicious judginess. Random reality stars I have never heard of do hilarious things in public just to grab a bit of attention. And then there are those Blind Items.

Blind items are a guessing game for those of us who feel it is our business to know who is snogging who. The drugs, the debauchery, the one hell of a good time that some kind soul leaked to a blogger; in the words of Britney Spears, gimme more! Blinds are quite addictive, probably because there are never any real answers. Lawsuits keep us from getting the real scoop. There is one super source for these, www.agcwebpages.com/BLINDITEMS/MAINPAGE.html, but beware, you may end up there for hours.

I suppose my life is boring, and gossip lets me imagine some connection with those whose lives are anything but. I don't want to party non-stop. Nor do I want to go through some nasty public divorce. But I do want to see those perfect images cracked. It is just yummy when the facade slips. It's not like anyone really believes the line about the famous people regimen of healthy diets and regular meditation. I don't, anyway.

I want to know who's waist was created by blow and who's doctor refuses to do more surgery. I feel it is my right to know who is money-hungry and who is desperate for attention. While I am not a fan of what Lainey (a Canadian gossip blogger at www.laineygossip.com) calls "sad smut," a little bit of misery for the rich, famous, and seemingly perfect makes my life just a tad more bearable sometimes. As a result, I check my sites as if they were the news.

My love of gossip blogs is a poorly kept, dirty little secret. I never thought that I would get so wrapped up in the lives of people whom I have never seen and probably never will. It has taught me one thing, though, its that the show never ends, even reality is scripted. I feel like I am peeking behind the curtain to see the real Oz. It is tacky, time consuming, and embarrassing -- but, boys and girls, that little shame isn't going to put a dent in my gossip reading tomorrow!

I am a wayward English Lit. major, lost in a rural community where there is nothing to do with such a degree but teach. Other than that, I'm short, kind of Irish, and recently married!  View profile

Gossip can be good for you. Or, it seems like I read that somewhere anyway.

Don't beat yourself up. we all love celebrity gossip. You are just braver than most because you admit it. I too, sneak peeks at TMZ during the day. Fun article
