I'm sure you know what I mean when I say stains on a carpet just make you want to pull your hair out! For some reason this is my biggest pet peeve and for the life of me I don't know why! I'm just a guilty! I'll be watching TV, not paying a bit of attention and spill a full can of soda all over the floor while my wife and rush up as if one of our kids had just fallen off a swing just to dab up the cola before it stains!

Here we are on our hands and knees pressing the towels, twisting it, dabbing it thinking we know what we're doing but when morning comes we see that our efforts were a total and complete failure!

We have high traffic in my home. My kids are very active and so about every three months I would spend 12 percent of their college fund to hire someone to come in a clean the carpet with only medium results. I couldn't understand why I was paying so much and not getting the results I wanted? My wife insisted it was the carpet and we needed new furry shag all throughout the house but I wasn't ready to give up!

I tried several companies in the area and I finally asked the Carpet Man what he uses. Well he told me it was a trade secret. That's like telling me you can water my garden with a thimble full of water from an ancient Chinese watering trick! While he was in doing his thing I looked at the magic chemical that wouldn't get my carpet clean but cost me several hundred dollars and it smelled like cheap laundry soap! At that moment a light bulb went off in my head!

About three months had passed it was time to call the "pros" once again. This time I put my foot down and she laughed at me. Well I made a simple bet with her. I told her I could clean the carpet better than anyone who's done it in the past. She agreed! The game was on!

I went to the store and bought a higher end Bristle carpet cleaner. It was around one hundred and fifty dollars if I remember. I bought some Tide Liquid, some bleach that won't fade colors and some Spray Out. I got home went around looking for stains and "treated" them with the Spray Out. While it settled I put the machine together and filled the "soap box" with a mixture of Tide Liquid and just a dash of bleach and filled the machine with hot water! I was ready to prove my wife wrong.

As I started the 1st round I noticed how good it smelled and how clean it looked. After the first dump of the water reservoir I was shocked. The water was brown! Pure dirt and grime coming off my floor! I did the rest of the house and waited for it to dry and when it did my carpet looked brand new! My wife was shocked and I won the bet!

My little concoction worked better than those pro's who were charging an arm and a leg! But I have to be honest! I went to a good friend of mine who at the time worked for the University of Texas and told him my idea. He explained the carpet was no different than washing a shirt or jeans so why wouldn't work. He just said don't overdo the soap and be careful on the bleach which was his idea to kill nasty little bacteria.

So for the past three years we've gone through two houses and 4 Bristle Carpet cleaners and never had to pay for someone to come in and do it because we can do it better!

Try it for yourself one time and the 1st time you empty the reservoir on your machine you will want to wake the kids and call the neighbors just to show them what you've accomplished.

The recipe is simple. 1 cup of Liquid Tide. Sometimes we use other brands depending on the sent my wife wants. Just a dash or two of bleach the kind that won't stain and then hot water. That's it and it works plus just think of all the money you'll save and guys make a bet with the wife! You can't lose!
