The New Opera Browser for the Mac

Opera 10.52 The Browser that Beats All the Others

Roy Devens
When I first started to use the newest version of the Opera browser, which is the version 10.52. I noticed the speed with which it loaded the web pages. I have used older versions of the web browser but this version beats them all. Not entirely sure it is 10 times faster then the old one but I do see a big difference in the loading speeds.

Built in Email and feed reader

One thing that Opera has going for it, at least for me, is the fact that it is also an E-mail reader and a RSS news feed reader. No need to download a separate piece of software, and install it to read your email or read news feeds.

Opera Turbo

Some of the new features of the 10.52 release are aimed at the mobile user. One of those new features is called Opera Turbo. This option will turn certain features off while loading the page. When you are on connected to the Internet in a public place. Where the speeds are not as fast as at the office or at home.

Opera Unite

Opera Unite is a feature that lets you share information with friends all around the word without ever needing to upload the data to a website for them to be able to see it. This is at the moment a very underrated feature and will in the future I'm sure have a great impact on how we share and use information with others. The only bad thing about Opera Unite is that you will need to sign up for an account, which is free. And you will need a handheld device that is capable of using the Internet.

Finger Navigation

When using the Opera browser on a laptop with a trackpad then there are several features added to make your life browsing the web easier. This is a nice feature if you know how to use it. It took awhile for me to figure it out. The sweet spots on the track pad are a bit tricky to find but when you do it is easy to use and you will love the finger navigation.

Widgets

However there are some things in the browser that I am not too fond of. One of those items is the widgets. When adding widgets to the browser it will take away the pleasure of browsing with Opera. Wherever you put the widgets they will eventually get in your way and become annoying. The more widgets you have open the more system resources they will take up. If you really a fan of the widgets, by all means use them, if you are not a fan you do not really miss much. The same widgets, in one way or another are also available as a dashboard app.

Who can use it?

For now the 10.52 is only released for the Mac. And you will need to at least have a Tiger(Mac 10.4.11) or higher installed for it to run. While writing the review of the Opera 10.52 browser version they have released the 10.53 version with some bug fixes in it.

The 10.50 version is available on all systems.
