The Original "Law of Attraction"

Day 19 - a Year with God

Marilyn Quinn
I have read so many books over the years that are supposed to help you find your real self, improve on who you are, or attract good things to you. Now that I am immersing myself in what I consider to be the first self-help book, I see that the things being taught in books like "The Secret" are basically the principles you find in the Bible.

I don't think the Law of Attraction is solely a way for people to try to bring wealth to them in the form of money. The basics of the Law of Attraction is about wanting something and believing it is possible that you receive it. It also holds that what you focus on, you attract. You ask, believe and receive.

Isn't this the basis of prayer. We pray for something fully believing that God will answer us and we let it go and know that it is on it's way to us. We don't keep worrying if God is listening; he always is.

"Therefore I say unto you, what things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." Mark 11:24

The way I prefer to think about it is that the things we think about are multiplied and so if we are dwelling on bad thoughts and expecting bad things, they will come. We are going to get what we ask for, good or bad.

"For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23:7

Have you ever known someone who says that bad things always happen to them? I have and still do. They don't believe that a positive attitude can change their whole day and what they are receiving. I guarantee you if you walk out of the house with a smile, you will get a lot of them in return. If you are grumpy, people are generally not going to be pleasant to you. Do most people want to bless someone who is in a foul mood? Given a choice of promoting one of two people; all things are equal except their demeanor and mood. Who would you promote? Someone who makes others light up with their presence or the person no one wants to be around?

Surely you know someone who is blessed and seems to constantly be receiving good things into their lives. I bet the person who is receiving good is not going around saying how the world is always shortchanging them. I am sure they don't complain about every little thing. I am sure they greet each day with a grateful heart and they expect good things to happen.

I do believe in seeking the positive in life and also feel it leads to less stress and better relationships. To be clear, though, I don't believe in denying true problems or issues but in facing them and doing the best with what life hands us. Thanks for sharing your perspective. I've enjoyed reading your articles.

I love this. I am so busy thanking God for my many blessings, I have no time to complain, nor any good reason to. Having you on AC is such a blessing to me and others, such a godly woman writer with godly wisdom like yours. Thank you. :-)
