"The Other Side"

"The Other Side"

This is the story of Jose Wright, or Joseph Wright as he goes by in America. He works as an attorney for a Los Angeles hospital. He makes good money, has a family, a wife and two kids. He leads a pretty normal, happy life. But things were not always this way for Joseph; things were not always happy.

Jose was born in a small Mexican town, not far from the border. When he was a year old, both his parents were shot and killed by Mexican bandits attacking the town for food. Jose was left an orphan, with no hope, until he was adopted by Michael and Clara Wright. With the Wrights he found new hope. He went to school, had friends, and did things just like an ordinary American boy. He went to UCLA and then to law school and began his successful career in law. This is the happy side of the story.

This is the story of Jorge Hernandez, twin brother of Jose. He works 16 hours a day in a farm in a rural Mexican city, hauling straw in the hot sun, day after day. He makes little money, barely enough to survive. He has no family, none at all which he knows of. He doesn't not lead what is seen as a normal life to many people, but although it is not happy, it is the life for many people. Although things have always been this way, they didn't have to be.

Jorge was born in a small Mexican town, not far from the border. When he was a year old, both his parents were shot and killed by Mexican bandits attacking the town for food. Jorge was left an orphan, with no hope, and, unlike his twin brother Jose, he was not adopted. The Wrights had only room to adopt one more child and they, for the simple reason that they liked Jose better, adopted Jose over Jorge, leaving Jorge hopeless. He didn't go to school; his only "friends" were those who worked long hours with him, the other orphans. This is the other side of the story.
