The Pale Gray Mist

Major Jester
The pale gray mist

Within arm's reach unnoticed
Except for water logged air

A stone's throw away
Details are blurred

Further out nothing is revealed
An impenetrable moving mass

Clarity barricaded in this surreal view
As you remember what lies beyond

Early day sounds seem amplified
Hearing more clearly that you cannot see

The senses both rebel and appreciate
For fog is alarming yet beautiful

Retreat occurs in minutes or hours
Earth's damp shroud dissipates once more

Under the clear blue sky
You struggle to remember

The pale gray mist

It's a great photo that does challenge your senses. I especially liked this line: "Clarity barricaded in this surreal view."

"The senses both rebel and appreciate"
That line is so true. I spent years driving endless miles of country roads each morning, many of them covered in fog. The fog was so beautiful, yet so frustrating.

Reminds me of a swamp we lived near, filled with skunk cabbage. I used to step on grassy mounds to avoid sinking. Loads of fun doing that as a young fella.
