The new Palm Centro is the latest smart phone from Palm that sports a very aesthetically pleasing design. While most Treo phones are bulky and thick, the Palm Centro is Palm's thinnest and lightest smart phone to date, and probably the most gorgeous too.

The Design

Unlike Palm's Treo Smart phones, the Palm Centro sports a new compact design. Deviating from the Treo's conventional and conservative design, the Palm Treo has a modern, stylish look with curved edges that makes the device easy to hold and slip into your pocket. The Palm Centro will come in two colors, Ruby and Onyx.

Specifications

The Palm Centro's specifications include: a 320 x 320 Transreflective touch screen display that supports 16-bit of color, dual band CDMA2000 / EvDO network, operates on Palm OS 5.4.9, Bluetooth 1.2, 64 MB internal memory expandable with a MicroSD card, 1.3 mega pixel camera with 2x digital zoom and video recording features, and QWERTY keyboard.

Features and Benefits

The Palm Centro is priced for the mass market at just under $100, you can't find any other smart phone at that price. The Palm Centro gives you a choice of input option through the full QWERY keyboard or touch screen display using a stylus that can be found on the back of the device, unlike other smart devices which only offers you either touch screen display or keyboard input. Connecting with friends is easy as the Palm Centro is an all in one device that gives you phone features, text messaging, IM, email, and web browsing capabilities. Text message your friends using the Palm Centro's chat style view messaging or IM them using AIM, MSN, or Yahoo! Messenger. Smart phone devices are known for syncing with a user's corporate email and the Palm Centro is compatible with most company's corporate email since it uses Microsoft's Direct Push Technology.

The Palm Centro also delivers fast broadband speeds while web browsing using EvDO networks. The Palm Centro can also be used as modem for your laptops so you can access high-speed EvDO networks. The Palm Centro also has a built-in Google Map application so you can have quick access to directions and traffic updates. Another important feature of a smart phone is the ability to view documents and the Palm Centro delivers on that department since the device works with Microsoft Office documents and PDF files.

Pricing and Availability

Palm is marketing the Centro for the mass market, giving the device a very affordable price of just $99.99 with a two-year contract from Sprint. The Palm Centro will be available mid-October and will be carried by Sprint exclusively for 3 months before it is available to other carriers.
