The Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg, Tennessee Review

Amy Brantley
I'll admit it. I'm a pancake junkie. The only problem is pancakes are one food I've never been able to master, even using a mix. Naturally, when I was looking for restaurants to dine at for this year's Gatlinburg trip, I was drawn to the Pancake Pantry. Not only did their menu look fantastic, but the restaurant has been in Gatlinburg for 50 years.. There obviously had to be a reason the Pancake Pantry had survived for this long.

The best part about the Pancake Pantry is the menu. The Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg, Tennessee features items you won't find anywhere else. There are, of course, a large variety of pancakes with different flavors and homemade syrups. But, The Pancake Pantry also features waffles, crepes, French toast and all your other favorite breakfast foods. They even serve lunch.

As I mentioned above, the uniqueness of the menu is what really caught my eye. They had pancakes made with locally ground whole wheat. They had Austrian Apple Walnut Crepes. But, what really caught my eye was the Orange Walnut Pancakes. The description stated that the pancakes were made with black walnuts and served with a homemade orange syrup. I absolutely love black walnuts so I had to try them.

I won't lie. These were by far the best pancakes I have ever had. Not only were the pancakes themselves loaded with black walnuts, but there were black walnuts on top of the pancakes as well. The orange syrup was also delightful. There were even segments of orange in the syrup, which added a nice texture. Not only were the pancakes delicious, but there were five big pancakes in the order. At a price of $8.20, this was a steal.

I will say that not everything about the Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg was wonderful. First of all, a glass of orange juice was $3.10! To me, that is just slightly insane. Also, the tables are so crammed together you can barely move without bumping into someone. Lastly, the waitress was very unfriendly.

With all that being said, I would have to give the Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg, Tennessee 4 out of 5 stars. The food was amazing, the food was served quickly and the prices were mostly reasonable. I would definitely eat here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Gatlinburg.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pancakes. I must confess that I am not a fan of American pancakes. They are very heavy! I prefer European-style pancakes. They resemble crepes. We used to serve them with lemon and sugar.
