The Party Never Ends in Pittsburgh's South Side

After a hard day's work in Pittsburgh, it's refreshing to visit the South Side. A free-spirited, urban energy pulsates through the neighborhood, captivating party-loving young professionals and students. The streets are studded with over 80 different bars and pubs that offer numerous drink specials to quench the thirst of Pittsburgh bar-hoppers.

Sometimes, it's even more entertaining to go out midweek but the last thing anyone wants to do is plunk down their hard-earned cash for overpriced drinks. It pays to look around - and it's fun to travel down East Carson Street in search of the week's best deals. There are plenty of bar specials on Friday and Saturday, but what about the rest of the week?

Sunday - Brewski's Bar: Sunday is an off-night for most bars, but there's always an interesting crowd gathered at Brewski's. Frat boys, bikers, and everyone in between stop in regularly for drinks or 6-packs. Admittedly, it's a bit run down but the drink prices are dirt-cheap. Monday - Fat Heads: It's a fact of life that no one really likes Mondays. You can chill out after a long day of work at Fat Heads. The bar has about 40 beers on tap and offers more than 200 varieties of bottles. And don't rush home to make dinner - Fat Heads is famous for it's food, cooking up 13 flavors of wings and 25 burger options. Monday special: 4-6pm $1 off drafts. Location: 1805 East Carson Street.

Tuesday - The Smiling Moose: Attention all sports fans - Tuesday night is hockey night at the Smiling Moose. This cozy pub is filled with sports memorabilia and packed with sports lovers, especially on game nights. Tuesday special: Hockey Night with $1.50 Canadian Beer from 10 p.m. to midnight. Wednesday- Jack's: Break up the week by stepping into Jack's, one of the South Side's most popular bars. It's filled with cheap drinks, raucous music and crowds of young people. It's a fun place to go, even midweek. Wednesday special: 8-12 $1 Miller Lite. Location: 1121 East Carson Street.

Thursday- RumShakers: Start the weekend early and avoid a cover charge by visiting RumShakers. The bar is broken up into three different areas with your regular bar, a smaller room with couches and dartboards, and a room with pool tables. It's a great place to kick off the weekend. Thursday special: $2.00 shots from 10 p.m. to midnight (every night) with $1.50 Bud Lite/ Michelob Lite and Captain and Cokes on Thursdays. Location: 1224 East Carson Street.
