The Passion of the Mel - Gibson Should Be in Jail!
As tapes have come out showing Mel to be an out-of-control misogynist and probable abuser, the rest of the world is being drawn to the same conclusion.
Writing in the New York Times, columnist David Brooks nails it:
"His self-love is his most precious possession. It is the holy center of all that is sacred and right. He is hypersensitive about anybody who might splatter or disregard his greatness. If someone treats him slightingly, he perceives that as a deliberate and heinous attack. If someone threatens his reputation, he regards this as an act of blasphemy. He feels justified in punishing the attacker for this moral outrage."
Mel Gibson also wears the haughty armor of the fundamentalist, sure in his self-righteous religiosity that he is chosen, better than the mere underlings around him.
Of course, Gibson does have right wing shock jock Michael Savage defending him.
But as obvious as his demented narcissism is, one has to wonder just how long he can keep himself out of some real legal trouble. Yes, the conversations between him and Oksana Grigorieva were taped - by a woman looking to protect her interests and her child, in all likelihood.
Still, California law allows for taped conversations to be entered as evidence if an individual or members of one's family are threatened with kidnapping, extortion, bribery or another felony involving violence. The person receiving the threats can make a tape recording without informing the other party. (California Penal Code 633.5)
Gibson threated not only to harm Oksana, but to kill her. And the sheer rage in his voice leaves little doubt as to his potential to act according to his threats.
If Gibson isn't charged soon, will a situation similar to what happened with O.J. Simpson be in the works?

The thing that disturbs me is once again everyone is attempting to excuse his behavior claiming that Oksana Gregorieva is a "gold digger". Whether she is or not, his behavior is still abusive and NEVER okay. He's far worse than Jake Pavelka and the disturbing Mr. Shue scene from GLEE, but with all of the tabloid entertainment shows defending him, there's a disturbing pattern emerging in the media of people stating that abusive behavior is acceptable, understandable, is the abuser has been provoked. I know I'm a broken record on this, but it's a dangerous standard that we're allowing the media to set for us. I hope Gibson disappears from the public eye. I will never watch one of his movies again. Ever.

If he committed a crime, arrest him. If he's just a ranting, raving ass, that is not a crime. If it was you'd be in jail Jeff! Sorry man - I could not resist.
Not defending the man but I'm guessing he has a MUCH bigger problem than any of us know, much like OJ he may bey writing his own "If I did it" book in the not too distant future. I wonder if this statement will put me on his hit list.
I'm currently working on a parody of a Catholic hymn that takes Mel to task. Keep an eye out for it!

What an awful person he is
Michael Savage didn't defend him; I was listening to Savage driving in to work and he was blasting Mel. In any event; remember a few years ago when South Park did that critique of Mel and called him a crazy, self-loving freak? Their critique doesn't seem so far fetched when it's written up by David Brooks!
OH, but Brother Mel is a good Christian... just look at how much money he made from that Christian S-M flick. He's just doing a good Christian man's job of keeping a woman in her place.
