Julian Beever is an artist with an amazing talent for fooling they eye. This sidewalk chalk guy is master of the illusion of three dimensions. His art not only stands out, it stands up. Viewed from the proper angle figures pop up out of or in to the flat sidewalk or pavement that is his canvas. Photographs rarely do justice to art, but Julian Beever's pops for the lens because his drawings are to be captured on camera, the only lasting record of his chalk artistry.

Mr. Beever is an English artist that has created contemporary art and reproductions of the old masters as three dimensional pavement art across Europe, Australian and the US. His work is often commissioned by corporations for truly remarkable advertisements. Aveeno, commissioned his Fountain of Youth which was time lapse photographed. Watching his art come to life is well worth a few minutes of your time. The Aveeno video can be viewed on YouTube.

The Pavement Picasso's website is a must visit for optical illusion fans. See super heroes like Spiderman or Batman and Robin seemingly come to life. Try to figure out which elements of the photographs are real or illusion. Be amazed at simple objects in gargantuan scale. Let reality turn upside down for a moment in fantasy. Enjoy.

Julian Beevers new book is called Pavement Chalk Artist: The Three-Dimensional Drawings of Julian Beever and includes a fabulous selection of Beever's most intriguing anamorphic drawings. Each photo is accompanied by a description of the techniques he used and the challenges he overcame. These photographs record the development of his unusual skill and understanding of perspective. Readers can see how his art progresses and matures as he takes on commissioned works and a wealth of original, inventive subjects in locations worldwide. The photographs tell the story, giving readers both an understanding of the principles of this 3-D art form and the pleasure of sharing the scenes that passersby once enjoyed before these unique works disappeared forever.
