Before we opened the gifts we had brought for each other, one of my sisters told us, "I have something for everybody. It's nothing big, but we have to open these gifts first and we have to open all of them at the same time."
Of course everybody was curious as she handed out the tiny packages, shaking them by our ears and examining the wrapped gift, but we waited patiently for everybody to receive their gifts as, one by one, we held the light-weight gifts in our hands. Nothing we felt or heard clued us into its contents.
When all gifts were passed out, my sister gave the command, "OK, everybody, it's time to open them."
We tore into the little packages looking for our surprise and there it was - bubble wrap. Just bubble wrap.
We laughed and laughed, our eyes expressing our delight as sounds of laughter mixed with bubbles popping filled the room. On that day in that living room, my family and I shared an experience that we would never forget. It cost so little and yet meant so much.
I highly recommend - the next time you're searching for a memorable gift that will cost you close to nothing, but that will bring lots of laughter and fun - that you consider gift wrapping some bubble wrap.
