The Perfect Give and Go in Soccer to Win the Championship

My Greatest Sports Accomplishment

Ryan Johnson
We have all heard stories of success on sports teams and always want to be in that situation. Hours upon hours of practicing the same drills is supposed to make us into a perfect machine on the field. Well it was during the championship game that one of these drills payed off. It wasn't the most elaborate move, just a simple give-and-go.

The score was tied 0-0 in the fourth quarter. Both teams were completely tired from a very physically demanding game. My team had a goal kick that we lightly kicked to our right defender in the hopes of creating a play later down the field. That defender happened to be me. Upon receiving the pass I quickly sprinted down the side-line to be confronted by the other teams right wing. I passed the ball to our center midfielder and quickly sprinted past the other teams right wing. This was just instinct because the other team was surrounding me and because I didn't wanna get yelled at by my coaches for being a lazy ass and stopping I continued to run down field. My teammate quickly passed the ball back to me and I had free sailing to the other teams goal. I had momentum and was able to run past all of the other teams defenders. I had a choice of shooting at a goal from the side or sending in the perfect pass to my forward. I sent the perfect centering pass to my forward and he headed it in over the goalie for a goal.

My team was able to hold the other team form scoring and we wont the tournament. This was notable because the play involved a very elementary skill that we were taught the first year of ever playing soccer, the give-and-go. This goes to show that the perfection of even the simplest things in life can result in the glory of a victory or simple satisfaction.
