The Perfect Laptop for College Students

Need a Laptop? Need Something Affordable?

Kelsey
Many college students are always on the go, and carrying cumbersome books and excess weight can make rushing to class more difficult. In today's education system, a laptop is looked at as a necessity to survive college.

There are many options today for lightweight laptops. Even though Apple's MacBook Air, weighing three pounds, may seems like the perfect solution, the starting price of $1,799 may be daunting for a student who is living off Ramen Noodle Soup and can barely pay their car insurance. Other companies have their own small laptops, but the Asus Eee PC 1000h is one of the top contenders.

Part of Asus's line of ultra-portable netbooks, the Eee PC 1000h is a small laptop comes with a small price. Weighing only 3.2 pounds, it is not bulky like some books that many college students carry around. Being durable as well, it is not cheaply made. Costing only $450, it is much more affordable than other laptops.

Being naturally a klutzy person, I wanted a small laptop that could handle getting dropped a few times. After much research, I decided the Eee Pc was for me. It came to me five days after ordering. After setting it up as I wanted it, I took my little laptop to school. I picked the XP Home version of the 1000h because some of my online classes require me to use special programs.

When I first brought mine into class, many of my classmates could not believe it was a laptop because of it's small size. Some thought it was a toy. Once they played with it for a while, they discovered it was no toy. I put it on a table and a few moments later--- thump!--- it ended up on the floor. Extremely nervous that it may not work again, I quickly booted it up and made sure everything was fine. It suffered a few more accidental falls, but still worked perfect. Then, I took some notes in class. It took some time adjusting the they keyboard, but I quickly got use to the smaller size.

Though it may not be a perfect laptop, it is perfect for college students. In combination of price and size, this durable machine will help you get your last minute papers typed. I recommend the Asus Eee Pc for everyone who needs a laptop for basic functions.

However, it is not perfect. It is by no means a gaming machine; only meant for typing and web surfing. The shift key is a little awkwardly placed. It does take time to getting use to the slightly smaller keyboard. It does not include neither a CD nor DVD player, so downloading programs can be a little more difficult. In addition, the glossy finish easily smears with use. Because of it's size and price, it's negatives can easily be overlooked.

  • Nice laptops can be affordable.
Laptops are always dropping in prices (the price for the 1000h dropped 11 days after I purchased it). Watch for the best deals! I even typed this article with the Eee Pc!
