Whether you're a tourist or a local of Pensacola, Florida I recommend you spend one evening in Downtown enjoying two of it's brighter gems. If you enjoy good food, fun, music and are in the mood for something unique and a little different with a touch of history these are the places for you; McGuire's Irish Pub and Seville Quarter.

McGuire's Irish Pub, established in 1977 and located in Downtown Pensacola Florida at 600 E. Gregory Street. Friday and Saturday nights are always a treat at McGuire's, arrive early if you don't like to wait, this is a restaurant where you can typically expect to wait an average of twenty minutes for a table, maybe longer if you request the pub area where they play live entertainment of Irish and Scottish folksongs in the evenings. Personally I enjoy the live music but be warned it can get loud, if you plan to carry on engaging conversations at your table you probably won't want to sit close to the stage. The atmosphere of McGuire's is one of cultural richness, humor, tradition and warmth. While you wait for your table you can explore the gift shop where they carry an assortment of amusing gifts and Irish treasures. The signature drink of McGuire's known as the 'Irish Wake' is a souvenir in and of itself since you get to keep the glass jar with the McGuire's logo printed on it. The drink itself is quite tasty and fruity, it's also quite capable of knocking you on your backside if you don't pace yourself. If you dare to take a second it becomes appropriately referred to as an 'Irish Resurrection'. Their menu carries a variety of Irish Cuisine and American Steak, be sure to read the menu carefully, you'll be quite amused at some of the food they offer. Don't forget to try their self made root beer, they brew it right there in the restaurant and it certainly is a treat. For more information on its history and traditions check out their website at www.mcguiresirishpub.com .

Once you're filled up on tasty shepherd's pie and a juicy steak, perhaps you'll want to wet your whistle in the collection of bars known as Seville Quarter. Located off Government Street in Downtown Pensacola inside what used to be the old historic courthouse is a collection of bars for anyone's taste. You'll enjoy dueling pianists, pool and sports on TV., karaoke, a quiet moment in the courtyard, and the occasional contest or event. The environment itself is a real treasure, the old building is absolutely beautiful and full of vitality. Local urban legend also adds to Seville Quarter's color with talk of ghosts that may still haunt it. Personally I recommend the karaoke on Wednesday nights; bring your friends and after a drink or two you'll be a star. Even if you're not a big drinker, you'll still enjoy the unique atmosphere, there is rarely a cover charge, simply an ID check and you are free to wander from bar to bar, each one with it's own style. This is a great place to celebrate or just visit with a group of friends. For more information be sure to visit www.rosies.com .

These two attractions are definitely worth visiting and enjoying. I for one fell in love with both of them and consider them to be two of Pensacola's most charming features. Nestled in Pensacola's historical downtown area, these places complement each other to make a most enjoyable night on the town. Grab your spouse, lover, or friends and be sure to plan an evening for these attractions.
