The Perfect Playlist for Your Christmas Party

Popular and Not so Popular Holiday Party Songs

Gabrielle M. Dugal
It's hard to believe, but it's that time of year again. The holidays are close at hand. If you're having a holiday gathering this year, then here's a play list for you. I've have chosen several popular and maybe not so popular holiday songs to complete my list. I love going with a great mix of old fashioned and new songs.

All I want for Christmas is You
Sung by: Mariah Carey

A great, upbeat, holiday love song. It can be overplayed, but the meaning behind it is sweet. Many forget the true meaning of the holiday season. So it's refreshing to hear a song about the love we share during the holidays and not the gifts

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
Sung by: Brenda Lee

What holiday party would be complete without this song. Even as a child growing up, this has always been one of my favorites. A great song to listen to while decorating the Christmas tree.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Sung by: Judy Garland

This song was originally written for the movie Meet Me in Saint Louis (1944) which starred Judy Garland. The lyrics have changed a little since the original. But it represented a time when the United States was heavily involved in World War II and was meant to encourage those who listened to it. My holiday tradition is to watch this movie every year. This is my ultimate favorite movie and holiday song.

Christmas Eve Sarajevo
Performed by: Trans-Siberian Orchestra

All I can say is, beautiful! This another song that just makes Christmas for me. The beat, rhythm and it's remake of well loved songs gives that feeling of holiday excitement you get when you're a child waiting for Santa to bring you your gifts.

Little Saint Nick
Sung by: The Beach Boys

I love how unique this song is and the flavor that the Beach Boys offer to it. This is a very cute depiction of the tale of Santa Claus and all that he does to prepare to visit every chimney in the world. Hey if you're at a party, you need some upbeat holiday music too!

I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
Sung by: John Mellencamp

An updated rendition of one of the cutest songs of the Holiday.I remember growing up hearing this song and thinking of my mom and dad. But that's because my dad played Santa at department stores when I was in elementary school. Now that I'm older and know the words, I can't believe how close I was to the truth.

Winter Wonderland
Performed By: Kenny G.

This song brings a romantic feel to any holiday party. This jazz piece is a great way to bring a little quiet and romance to your holiday party.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Sung by: Gene Autry

Another cute children's song. I know when I listen to it, it makes me feel young again. Children and adults a like love this piece and it is so much fun to sing.

Feliz Navidad
Sung by: Jose Feliciano

First released in 1970, this song has become quite popular over the years. I remember when I was younger I used to love singing this song because it was so much fun. According to Wikipedia this title means the literal translation of Happy Nativity.

The First Noel
Sung by: Kenny Rogers

I love this song sung by Kenny Rogers. Rogers rustic voice just adds a great character to this timeless classic.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
Sung by: Bing Crosby

This song actually has been sung by many a famous singers. I, however, really like the version sung by Bing Crosby. The song was written by Meredith Wilson in 1951 while vacationing at the Grand Hotel in Nova Scotia.

Holly Jolly Christmas
Sung by: Burl Ives

Another fantastic classic. I think of the classic Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer movie when I hear this song. Actually, the song Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer was written by Johnny Marks who also wrote Holly Jolly Christmas. Animators Rankin Bass liked Rudolph so much they created a television special that later became the Rudolph movie we all know and love. Because Burl Ives sang both songs so well they brought him in to play narrator Sam Snowman.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Sung by: Andy Williams

I think the title says it all. Everyone is enjoying each others company, gifts are being passed around and houses and trees are beautifully decorated. With the exception of retail madness, everyone is usually pretty happy this time of year and this song just helps you get into that mode.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Sung by: Bruce Springsteen

A classic taken up a notch by Bruce Springsteen. I love this song for that very reason. Springsteen takes and adds a modern element to a well loved and known song.

Oh Holy Night
Sung by: Celine Dion

Whenever I hear this song it makes me misty eyed. It's a beautiful story of the birth of Jesus and what it means to everyone. I love both the English and French version as well.

Greensleeves
Performed by Kenny G
.
This song is a wonderful instrumental version of 'What Child is This.' It makes me want to find a fireplace and a big cup of hot cocoa.

Little Drummer Boy
Sung by: Bob Seger

A modern rendition of a good old fashioned Christmas Carol. I especially like the chorus in the back ground that adds to the dimension of this song.

Jingle Bells
Sung by: Kimberly Locke

A jazzy and in my opinion a great updated version of a very, very old classic. Some of the lyrics have been changed a little over the years, but the meaning is still there. No holiday party would be complete without this song.

Santa Baby
Sung by: Madonna

A very cute rendition. This song has been sung by many people, from Ertha Kitt to the Pussy Cat Dolls. Although it is a bit selfish, I think it's cute and can add a bit of sexiness to your party.

Jingle Bell Rock
Sung by: Billy Idol

Definitely a new twist on this song. Although Jingle Bell Rock is a fairly new song compared to all the old goodies, I believe that eventually it will be considered a classic.
