The Photograph

Marsha Coles
The edges faded and torn,

Shows a person decades before born,

The smiling face etched in the moment,

It's the face of our very own descendant.

Year after year we bring it out,

To show our children how they came about,

It tells of the hardships,

By the set of their lips.

The strength radiates from the photograph,

And makes me wish I had just a half,

Of the strength that they possessed,

In the work worn hands used with finesse.
