The Physics of Heartache

The Laws of Nature Need Not Apply

Kylyssa Shay
If the human heart is the size of my fist
How can such a crater exist?
How can there be a person-sized pit
Where the size and the shape do not permit?

There's a space in my heart
It's been hollowed out by tears
In the time we're apart
This crater appears

The available space has somehow ballooned
There's a void, a vacancy, a sucking chest wound.
The laws of physics are being defied
There is no way that you could fit inside.

Actually, the laws of physics are not violated in your poem! When you learn about elementary particles, you'll find that when you break up an elementary particle into its components, the components are more massive (have more mass) than the original particle!
