The Picnic

Wiley Vaughn
Her lips are sweet
Like a ripe persimmon
Hanging above in the sun.

Her hair dangles down
Dark tresses of shadow
Cooling my razor burned face.

Her laughter makes me
Want to sing sonnets
Looking in her beautiful eyes.

We call it picnic
But my ravenous hunger
Isn't for tart potato salad.

When will she finally
Let our lips meet
In passion glorious and true?

Some would dare say
She is old fashioned
Waiting and wanting Mr Right.

I will be patient
For the reward coming
When she decides she's ready.

Until then I'm quietly
Culling my bad habits
Becoming the man she'll choose.
