The Pita Pit is an excellent alternative for anyone wishing for healthier fast food. It's perfect for anyone bored with burgers, but still on a budget. My husband and I frequent the Pita Pit, so I can tell you firsthand what a really great place it is to grab a meal.

For starters, the restaurant is always clean. Granted, most times we stop into the Pita Pit, it's to get our food and take it elsewhere. But finding a clean restaurant or shop in any college town is something of a chore. Finding a clean restaurant in the village area of Muncie, Indiana is often times impossible. The fluctuation of service in that region is ridiculous. Ownership changes frequently and unexpectedly. An independent restaurant might open up one week, be fantastic, then you'll go in a month later and it's a shell of the place it once was. Why? Ownership changes. It's a shame and it makes for an ever-changing landscape in the area for restaurants, and not in a good way. So the fact that the Pita Pit has maintained quality and ownership is remarkable given the surrounding trends.

The staff is always pleasant. I've never had an experience where I had to wait too long, I've never had an employee be rude to me, and I've never had a sub-par pita. Those are excellent service statistics. So whatever the management techniques at Pita Pit, they must be good.

The set-up is similar to that of Subway, Jimmy John's, and other sandwich shops. There are several tables available, but nothing fancy. This is fine, because Muncie is a college town. Who needs fancy? What's really amazing is the fresh food with a different taste. It seems like every low cost food option menu is composed primarily of fried food or food that's terrible for you. That's what makes Pita Pit so revolutionary, despite its simplicity of concept. Think Subway, but with Pitas instead of giant loaves of bread and a far greater list of ingredients and toppings.

There are several varieties of pita on the menu; they can come by themselves or as meals with chips and a drink. They also sell cookies. You pay for your pita and move on to where they are prepared. You have your choice of white or wheat wraps, and several ingredients such as Spinach, Feta Cheese, Tzatziki, (a tasty Greek yogurt with diced cucumber) pineapple, sprouts, and more traditional ingredients such as lettuce, cucumber, tomato and all the typical dressings.

They also do a great job of putting ingredients on in the right ratio to one another. This sounds picky, but most other sandwich shops don't seem to have a knack for this. I've had plenty of sandwiches ruined by too much cheese or dressing. But they train the people who wrap the pitas not to overload them with too many of one ingredient, which makes them much tastier.

There are also a lot of specials and deals going on a regular basis. You can get a Pita Pit card which will be stamped once for every pita you purchase. After 8 pitas, you get one for free. There are deals based on the day of the week, such as buy one pita get another half off and so on. So in addition to the already low prices, you can almost always get some kind of a discount. Not that you would need it.

It's a simple restaurant, with cheap prices and high quality food. Out of all of the fast food restaurants in Muncie, I honestly think it takes the top spot. It's the best of its genre, price-wise, quality-wise, service-wise, and in the cleanliness department. I strongly recommend that you try eating at the Pita Pit.
