They ended that year with a record of 0-11 said by Steelers.com. After the war Pittsburgh was a single unit. But in 24 years of professional play Pittsburgh would only make it to one playoff game in witch they lost in a shutout by the team that saved their franchise, Philadelphia Eagles. They would break that endless curse with the hiring of head coach Chuck Noll in 1969 researched from Steelers Team History Page. Through the years coach Noll brought in amazing talent such as Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, and Franco Harris. With this team the Steelers were virtually unstoppable making nearly every playoff for almost the next decade.
The Steelers luck would change in 1987; this is when they suffered their first losing season in nearly twenty years. They would slowly lose their once threatening swagger. Chuck Noll would retire in 1992; this is when Pitt brought in longtime head coach Bill Cowher. In his first six seasons as head coach the Steelers made the playoffs. Bill would also take the Steelers to two Super Bowls. Steelergridiron says Super Bowl XXX witch they lost to the Dallas Cowboys 27-17, but Super Bowl XL Cowher beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-10. Cowher would step down from the thrown after the 2006 season to be replaced by the first African-American to coach the Steelers in 2007. Mike Tomlin led the Steelers to a 10-7 season in his first season and that would please fans who weren't so sure of his inexperience. He was a former assistant coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He graduated William and Mary college with some noticeable teammates like Darren Sharper but because of his age he would be pass on by the Dolphins only to join the Steelers only the four head coach in franchise history. Steelers would comment on his hiring saying he symbolized the way the Steelers use to play football through hard-nose defense and a powerful running game.
