According to the "Bug" character in the movie Men in Black, we are living short, pointless lives. Many of us, don't believe this. We believe there is a point to the random sequence of events we call a lifetime. But, what is that point? Are we here just to live out a few decades that have no more purpose than being a contributor in a chemically driven cycle? There is a point, and if we take the time to step back and look at how the world actually is, we can see it. It isn't some grand secret that a higher power has hidden from us. The point very often looks us right in the eye.
In life, we make a choice about what to believe. The range of choices is just incredible. There is the:
1. Instant gratification of extremist Islam (Boom! You're in heaven),
2. The chokehold of biblically inerrant conservative Christianity (The infinite contained in a few hundred pages)
3. The kharmic tightrope of Buddhism.
4. The worship of almost everything of Hinduism.
5. The relative new comers the Bahai', who are trying to incorporate all of mankind's endeavors.
6. The worship of intellect called Atheism.
These are just examples of the menagerie of world views. Variations on each world view can number in the hundreds. So, what is the point of all this diversity of choices?
Diversity of choices creates diversity in people. What happens when there is diversity?
War! yes.
Boundaries both physical and conceptual! yes.
Free will! yes
Opportunity! yes
Love! Do you see where I am going yet?
Here is the point, in life we make choices and we experience the consequences of these choices. From this, we learn. But what are we learning? The vast diversity we experience in this lifetime is the perfect setting for learning how to love. I believe the point of this lifetime is to learn to love in all situations. It is why I am a follower of Yeshua (Jesus). His teachings are consistent with the actual makeup of mankind. He taught to love each other as he loved us. We should learn to love our neighbor as ourselves. Or in other words, learn to be concerned for the well being of others as we are concerned for our own.
So, I have to ask, are you getting the point?
Think about this the next time you look someone in the eye who is "diverse."

Post a CommentWelcome back! Interesting points.
Yeshuan, not sure I understood your reference to Christianity, but I agree with Sheryl. "Political Correctness" is killing our country. Diversity is ok, but the ability to express one's self is part of a democracy. The point, I believe, is to worship God. As a Christian, I do not find the Bible oppressive, and I believe what Jesus said when He said "I am THE way, THE truth, THE life." Any other so-called way is errant. This is MY belief. Some times it takes coming within a breath of death to really get what the point is. Love your graphic!
So glad to see your writing again! This is a wonderful piece. I think the push toward "valuing diversity" has actually HURT the cause for diversity...our differences are more noticeable now than ever, and people get their feelings hurt more easily now, because now everyone's been given permission to get "offended" by what anyone else says!!!
Excellent...although I never considered Conservative Christianity as being oppressive (only to those who either disagree with it or don't really understand it) Welcome back brother, you were sorely missed.
